Looks great, doesn't last!

Looks great, worked great for about a year and a half and then completely failed! Installed in our kitchen during a complete remodel with all CAFE appliances. Now we either need to replace it with another and hope it lasts longer, or redo the tile around it. I can't recommend this, there is no way it should be dead with the light household use we have used it for.

Changing the hood lamps

It™€™s the day after Christmas and while I should be in a good mood, I tackled the project of replacing the hood light on my cafà hood, a task that I™€™ve been putting off for weeks. My prediction couldn™€™t have been more correct. It took me three or four tools, pain to my fingers, forcing something that shouldn™€™t be forced and 45 minutes until final triumph to have that come down. Now I™€™m experiencing a new challenge which is separating the lamp wire at the connection where it should come free without any issue. I™€™ve given up in hopes that a guest who is coming to my house tonight who is an engineer tonight can figure it out. I will never never buy a cafà hood again for this reason alone. We are within the first 24 months of the use of the hood and both lights have blown, and I™€™ve had to go through this twice. Proceed with caution with this type of hood. It looks great, but it shouldn™€™t be this much of a challenge to change a light.

We bought the unit a couple years ago but just got it installed this summer due to construction delays with the kitchen remodel. It™€™s now past the original one year purchase warranty, and we™€™ve already had to replace one light socket which was easy enough but expensive, and now a month later both lights fail to come on even though the light switch illuminates indicating they should be on. Sounds like the full light assembly now needs to be replaced. We do love the look of it and how nice it fits in with the other GE appliances we added. Other than the light issues it works great, but since it™€™s only been in use about 6 months and has already had two electrical issues, I question the quality of it for the long run even though it should be top of the line based on the cost.

We have a low ceiling and I was concerned about the visual mass of a ventilating hood in the space. This hood offers plenty of power without the bulky look. The auto shut off feature is a big win for me, I use that all the time. This would be a five star if the lamps were LED.

9 months in and lights don't work

I like the look of the hood. But I bought and installed it in January and within 9 months the LED lights, which are supposed to last for years were burned out. It is impossible to buy them locally. I just think if you pay $700 plus for an oven hood a major component of it should last longer than 9 months.

This range hood was exactly what I was looking for visually minimal with strong motor. My home does not allow for external venting so the ability to convert it to air recycling is great. Be advised you will need to buy a charcoal filter for this option and it is not included.

It has been around 6 weeks so far. One if the biggest problem is continuous noise from the inside flat whenever there is a little bit wind. Hood cover is a disaster™€¦ too many marks and spots. GE hardly cares about it.

The shape and size fit perfectly in our small country kitchen below our cabinet line. The glass shield is clean and classic and doesn™€™t clutter our limited wall space. The motor had a slight chirping when we first used it ( the reason for only 4 stars) but that has ceased. It is quiet and the halogen light is preferred over the harsh light of LED. Vents well!

Works well but expensive to install

It was difficult to get this to fit in the existing space and connecting it to the exhaust vent, so unfortunately we had to hire a vendor to do so. That said, it works pretty well and has multiple brightness settings for the lights and fan that we appreciate. However the glass in the front of the unit juts out a little further than I'd prefer and can be a bit of a headbutt hazard when looking over saucepans on the range while you cook. For the price, I wish the design was a little more useful.

GE Cafe Range Hood

the Cafe range hood is much more expensive that other products that you can purchase at places like Lowe's and Home Depot. Hopefully the price brings superior quality with it. Product install went well and seems to operate okay. When I got the unit home and went through the parts, I found that the damper that was supplied with the device had fallen apart and the hinge wire was missing. I was able to make my own as this part is needed when venting outside. Unfortunately when it's windy a pressure difference occurs between the inside and the outside which causes the damper to open then shut maki a lot of noise. Only other thing that I would change is that the lights that come with the device are not LED so they tend to generate a lot of heat. Not sure at this point in LED technology why GE wouldn't install LED bulbs in the unit.

Really pretty, but instructions have mispelled words, measurement are off, pre drilled holes do not line up, cheap screws and hardware. If I had known that this was so difficult to properly install, I would not have bought it. And I am really skilled. Wish they just had a simple template.

We just opened our Hood today, paid our contractor to come over to install it. Opened the box and didn't even look packed securely. Then we are looking at the ductwork and its bent. Almost like it was squished. So frustrating, we ordered back in late FEB, just received our Cafe products and now another delay.
